Loh Hoay Hoon, a 25-year-old female press photographer of Guang Ming Daily was punched, kicked and held by the neck while attempting to take pictures of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at a ceramah here on last night at the Seberang Jaya expo grounds

Loh received outpatient treatment at the Seberang Jaya Hospital later, before lodging a report at the Seberang Jaya police station at about 3.15am.

Parti Keadilan Rakyat has issued a public apology to the media for the incident.

State PKR secretary Abdul Malik Abul Kassim said they had identified the person responsible for grabbing the neck of Loh Hoay Hoon, 25, of Guang Ming Daily and are checking to see if he is a party member, adding that if he is, he will be sacked from the party. "This action is uncalled for. PKR do not have a practice like this and this is obviously an over-reaction by the men, " he said.

Abdul Malik also said one or two in the group who accosted the photographer are PKR members while the rest could be volunteers. From now onwards, Abdul Malik said they will have a trained group to handle security in such events and they will be registered and carry identification tags.

Pantai Jerejak assemblyman Sim Tze Tzin, who is also political secretary to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said Anwar was very upset over the incident and has held a meeting to express his concern about the safety of the media in doing their job.

"Volunteers will no longer be involved in security and those involved in the incident will be sack from the party," he said.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng also regretted that such an incident had happened and hoped the police will arrest the people responsible. "We have always practiced non-violence and we want the culprits captured and punished according to the law," he said.
