The United States summoned Friday Malaysia's top envoy in Washington to protest its crackdown on dissent at a time when the opposition was attempting to take over power in Kuala Lumpur. This is the second time Malaysia's charge d'affaires was summoned to the US State Department in a month.

who authorises the arrests
So far, three Malaysians were arrested under the draconian Internal Security Act:
- Prominent and Well-Respected Blogger: Raja Petra Kamarudin of "Malaysia-Today" website
- Female Sin Chew (Chinese) Daily Journalist:Ms Tan Hoon Cheng, a journalism graduate of University Sains Malaysia, who exposed and report on the racist remarks of UMNO Bukit Bendera Division Chief, Ahmad Ismail. Sin Chew Daily stands by the report and Ahmad Ismail has not denied making his racist remarks.Read here for more .

The MCA (a partner of UMNO in the Government) has expressed shock that former Bukit Bendera Umno division chairman Datuk Ahmad Ismail, who made racist remarks has not been taken to task but Sin Chew reporter Tan Hoon Cheng, who wrote about the incident, has been arrested instead. Read here for more

Teresa Kok was arrested at 11.18 pm (12 September) when returning from a Mooncake Festival, Three police cares with over 10 police pesonal stopped Teresa Kok at the condominium entrance and took her away, She was taken to Wangsa Maju Police Station from the condominium and at 2.50 a.m (13th September 2008), she was taken to the an unknown custody centre where she would be held for her police custodial detention which could be up to 60 days. After that, it is up to the Home Minister to decide whether to issue a formal order of detention without trial, which could be for two years, renewable indefinitely. Read here for more
It is reported that Teresa Kok was detained for allegedly telling mosque officials in Kota Damansara, Sri Serdang and Puchong Jaya to tone down the call to prayer. This was DENIED by mosque officials and a police report was made by mosque officials against Khir Toyo who made the accusation at Teresa Kok in the media. Read here for more
In the 2008 General Elections, Teresa Kok retained her Parliamentary seat of Seputeh in Kuala Lumpur with a majority of 36,492, the largest majority in any constituency in these elections.
She also won a state seat, Kinrara in Selangor where she is contesting for the first time.
In the new Selangor executive council, she was named Senior Executive Councillor and put in charge of investment, trade and industry.
She is the DAP Publicity Secretary, the National Secretary of DAP Wanita (the women's wing of the DAP) and a member of the DAP Disciplinary Committee.
In Parliament, she was a member of the Select Committee on Review of Penal Code and Criminal Procedure Code.
Teresa Kok is the Secretary of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Myanmar Caucus (AIPMC). She was an active lobbyist for Burmese democracy and human rights since 1996 when she was the Coordinator of Political Leaders Network Promoting Democracy in Burma (PD Burma) in Southeast Asian region.

Meanwhile, the BN-Government has asked 40 of Barisan Nasional Members of Parliament to flee Malaysia to Taiwan on the pretext of a study tour of agricultural activities, to prevent some of them from crossing over to the Opposition Pakatan Rakyat. (Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim had targeted September 16, to take over Government). According to a report, the 40 MPs are asked to go to Hongkong instead of flying back to Malaysia after visiting Taiwan.
Appeals were made by Raja Petra's wife, Marina Lee Abdullah and by Opposition leaders to stay calm so as NOT to give the UMNO thugs and UMNO-sponsored Mat Rempits an excuse to go on a rampage on the roads of KL, Ipoh and Penang to create racial chaos as what happened 39 years ago in 1969.
